I have a facsimile of it, costed £14 (new) but it falls into the necessary purchase catergory.Looks like Hawk's discovered Grose's Dictionary. Careful, or you can end up posting pretty much all of it. Great stuff.
That caused me to discover another great one. Second entry: https://www.lexico.com/definition/kittleKittle
All wrong, all wrong. It goes:Already mentioned on the Every Time thread, but it deserves a place here:
'Twas twilight, and the sunless day went down
Over the waste of waters; like a veil,
Which, if withdrawn, would but disclose the frown
Of one whose hate is mask'd but to assail,
Thus to their hopeless eyes the night was shown,
And grimly darkled o'er the faces pale,
And the dim desolate deep: twelve days had Fear
Been their familiar, and now Death was here.
While I looked at the regional variants of the main element of the above compound and saw that the Moroccan pronunciation was kīf, it dawned on me that the French expression "kif-kif" must come from there. And, sure enough, it does: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/kif-kifكيفية - Wiktionary, the free dictionary
