Vides ut alta stet nive candidum
Socate nec iam sustineant onus
silvae laborantes geluque
fulmina constiterint acuto.

The cases in first two verses puzzle me.
Socrate could be ablative or vocative. What I could put together is: Socrates, you see that the whitness stands with high snow and the woods already can't sustain the burden (of the snow).
But this is just strange to me and why is he even mentioning Socrates?

What I could put together is: Socrates, you see that the whitness stands with high snow and the woods already can't sustain the burden (of the snow).
Judging from what Notascooby said, Soracte could then be the subject of stet: Soracte altā nive candidum stat.
