Well, I think the point was that the "famed" Latin vowel would be rounded, I think... rounded and relatively closed. If nothing, it will be very close to the Greek/French/German one and it should be mentioned in this thread in any case.

But, as Etaoin says, a single language often has so many accents and often enough, you find quite surprising vowels in some language where you never believed they could even exist.
