I'm hung up on a line of St. Sidonius (Epistulae ix: 14): "Sole medere pede, ede perede melos". I know its a palindrome, but what does it mean? If "medere" were "medare" I suppose it might be "Make it a habit to go halfway on foot; eat, eat up the song". But that's nonsense, isn't it? And of course if it were "medare" it wouldn't be a palindrome any more. I'm new to this forum. If anyone can help me with this I'll be real impressed. Thanks in advance...
