In a learning app (Cattus), I was asked to translate the sentence
"We are friends".
My translation: "Amici sumus".
My reasoning: "Sumus" (esse) is a copula verb, 1st person plural. Hence, its subject should be plural, too.
This was marked wrong. The correct translation, according to the app: "Amicus sumus".
My questions: Who is right -- my app or me? And why? Many thanks in advance!
