The divide has been widening since nineteenth century Modernism was a thing, but now it looks like it's finally getting close to breaking (off) point. The problem is, that it looks like the heretics are going to retain control of the Church's buildings and assets, including the Vatican. I'm sure St. Peter's will make a lovely museum some day.
