he sends me abusive private messages in which he says that he will be as much of the word I am not allowed to call him as he likes, and if I don't like it, tough. Then he deletes the PM; given that he has always used the original one from our first off-forum chat some years ago, it removes quite a lot. This is a pretty flagrant abuse of mod power.
[...]
I also said somewhere, but can't be bothered to dig up, that if it is the policy to allow this, then something should be done about receiving email alerts to PMs, because the text of a PM shows up in the email. If the intention of deleting the PM was to prevent me from revealing what was said at any point in it, it wasn't thought through. However, I have already given my assurance to my correspondent that I would not reveal anything that was said previously, when we were on good terms.
Of course I cannot know what happened between you and Godmy and can only speculate here, however: I am an admin and can't delete my PMs, although I can edit them for a limited period of time, as everyone else can. I can "Leave" a conversation - I don't know if this has the effect of deleting it for the other participant (perhaps after a while?). The possibility that Godmy could have edited the live database to make his PMs disappear sounds very unlikely.

Really? Even considering he's such a computer buff?

I guess we might carry out a test. I could PM Etaoin, or you, or whoever else volunteers, and then leave the conversation and see what happens.

Go on. I'll respond, so there's more than just your own message. If you hit the Leave button after that, let's see if we go back to 1970.

When I clicked "leave", I was given the option between accepting new messages and ignoring new messages. I chose ignoring, and can no longer see the conversation at all. I guess I would still be able to see it if I'd ticked the other option.

How is it on your end?

Maybe he used the "Indicare" button, then, being an admin, the message was revealed to him, making it detectable/deletable, and he deleted it. Reported messages are disposable by the moderators AFAIK. It's "bold" but legit IMHO.

I can still see it.

So now we know Godmy didn't simply leave the conversation, but abused his admin powers. Or used them legitimately, if the other admins believe that this is something admins should be able to do if the spirit moves them. Which is it?

No, I don't expect a real answer. But I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised.

But now I'm wondering -- if you leave a conversation, but accept new messages, how does leaving it differ from just not replying to it?

I was wondering too. It seems an odd option to give. But perhaps... can you post a new message in that conversation now?

I'm wondering if the conversation's initiator "ignoring" it prevents anyone else from continuing the conversation (some conversations have more than two participants). But logically that wouldn't be called "ignoring" new messages; rather "refusing" them or so.

There is no space at the bottom to reply, as there normally is. I can hit Reply on a previous post, either mine or yours, & it quotes the post and allows me to reply. I just did, but assume you can't see it.

And now that I've replied, the box at the bottom for replies is open again, not that there's much point to it.

A person who's helped so much this forum with regard to technical issues would do that?

Who'll fix the technical issues now that he's gone?

I don't see an implicit contradiction. Like everyone else, he does what he wants to do.

What is your explanation for how the PM vanished? We have just seen that PMs don't vanish if one party hits Leave.

Are you constitutionally incapable of admitting you might have been wrong about something?

I'd like to put an ad:

A bunch of abused mods and admins would like to find some greener pastures, where their hard work isn't paid by insults.

Anyone willing to take the poor bunch?

Still no answer to any of my questions. Just continued misrepresentation.
