Italian: Dante's Divine Comedy

Hello, this is my first post.
I have an old, old friend who sends me a cryptic message once a year that gives me a clue as to how I can contact him (he is peripatetic). (Last year's message was a chapter from Moby Dick.)

This year's message is, I think, in Latin. I'm seeking a translation and, if this is from a well-known text, the source. Thanks for your help!

Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita
mi ritrovai per una selva oscura,
che la diritta via era smarrita.

Not Latin, but Danteic (is this the proper adjective?) Italian.

It's the first few lines of Canto I of Dante's The Divine Comedy.

It translates as:

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straight-forward pathway had been lost.
