You've got it in English as well (to haha). I guess I find it more striking in Arabic, kind of, because that sort of thing is just commonplace in English (in English, you can make a verb out of pretty much anything).

But Arabic does have some nice onomatopoeic verbs. The first one I came across (and I've mentioned it elsewhere) was وسوس, waswasa, "to whisper". It's something the Devil likes to do.
Makes me think of Japanese 噂 uwasa "rumor, gossip", although it doesn't appear to be onomatopoeic (even though Japanese has a LOT of lexicalized onomatopoeias, very commonly turned into verbs).

"Nougat" comes from Occitan pan nogat, likely from Latin panis nocatus: nut bread. It makes a lot of sense and I wish it had dawned on me however belatedly.

Who knew that Latin had a (rare) word cognate with "yellow"? Gilvus. Maybe of Celtic origin (according to the OLD).
