Hello to all.

I wonder if someone might be so kind as to look at this and give me their thoughts. This is in an incunabula I was thinking of buying. The book is supposed to have been printed in 1488. The dealer told me the dealer says, "the date is shown on the colophon page. DuicCXXXVIII which was the old roman numeral marking for 1488". To me it seems to be speaking of Psalm 138 and a victory of King David. This is a page from "Postilla venerabilis fratris. Nicolai de Lira super psalterium incipit feliciter". With best regards and warmest wishes to all!

Yes, it is talking about Psalm 138. CXXXVIII, as you understood, is 138 in Roman numerals. The letters that precede aren't part of a number, but they're a separate word (huic, not duic). As for the "victory" bit, what's being said is that this psalm has the title "to victory" in Hebrew.

What you've shown there doesn't look like a colophon page.
