Cogito?

A discussion with friends about René Descartes and his observation "Cogito ergo sum," led to one of us turning it around to "I am, therefore I think," which led to "I believe I am, therefore I think."

From high school Latin, I translated the first to "Sum ergo cogito," and the second to "Credo sum ergo cogito."

To me, the first one looks okay, but I have a feeling the latter needs the Latin word "me" inserted,, as in "Me credo sum ergo ..."

The first one is indeed OK. The second one should be credo me esse ergo cogito.
