I wonder if the footprint owner ever made it to Letocetum up the road from me as the XIV were stationed there while campaigning with Gallus against the Brigantes. I suppose there's no rough date for that tile. Anyone else notice the penis print?

Yeah, the caption of the Facebook post has a typo when it says EDIBVS MARTIIS. It should be EIDIBVS (and ei is a standard alternate spelling for long i that appears frequently in inscriptions and the like). In terms of how many characters of the word are written, that is just convention; usually it's the fewest possible that still give a recognizable/unambiguous meaning.
