A question about this: whats the grammatical rule for abbreviations respinsible for this? Specially, writing only the first three charactefs and swapping the second and third position of Ides?
I think it is just an archaic spelling —eidibus
Yeah, the caption of the Facebook post has a typo when it says EDIBVS MARTIIS. It should be EIDIBVS (and ei is a standard alternate spelling for long i that appears frequently in inscriptions and the like). In terms of how many characters of the word are written, that is just convention; usually it's the fewest possible that still give a recognizable/unambiguous meaning.
